# Review prompt

> A review prompt is the dialog that asks for an App Store rating inside the app. Apple prefers the system prompt, which asks for a rating and an optional review and limits itself to three a year.

## Why it matters

Asked at the wrong moment, a prompt costs the rating it wants. Apple warns that people asked before they know the app may leave negative feedback.

The system prompt is limited by the platform, so the design chooses the moment, not the frequency.

## In Appetite UI

Review Prompt is a dialog set on the Alert page with three states, Default, Input Rating and Rating Submitted. Title and description are editable, by default Enjoying Appetite? and a line telling people to tap a star to rate on the App Store.

## Example

A fitness app asks after a person finishes a workout streak of ten days, at the natural break after the summary, and never on first launch.

## Common mistakes

- Asking on first launch or during onboarding.
- Interrupting a task. Wait for a natural break.
- Asking again within a week or two.
- Building a custom prompt where the system one exists.
